His career is in her hands—will he risk his future to save her?

Clarice Sutton, daughter of privilege, was raised to lead society, but that life feels increasingly empty, so instead of taking her proper place in their social set, she's taken a job her parents abhor: police department psychologist. The company she keeps and the people she meets horrify her oh-so-proper parents and their friends.

Santino "Saint" Valdez—hardnosed detective who is anything but saintly—is under investigation by Internal Affairs for killing a predator he's not at all sorry to have eliminated. Now he's supposed to spill his guts to Miss Prim and Prissy? No way—not ever.

Yet she's not what he expects, and he surprises her, as well. A growing attraction complicates both their lives, and time spent together only strengthens the unwise bond between the mongrel from the streets and the society girl.

Saint's future depends on Clarice's professional evaluation, yet her feelings toward him are increasingly anything but professional. An Internal Affairs detective who trusts her wants Saint's head in a noose, so the stakes couldn't be higher. New on the job, Clarice can't afford to falter, yet the urge to defend the man who won't defend himself is powerful.

And when Clarice learns that the parents she's tried so hard to please have lied to her all her life, the only person she trusts to understand how lost and alone she feels is the very man she must avoid in order to save him.

As the forces against Saint gather, he knows the worst thing he can do is spend time with her and risk tainting her evaluation…yet how can he turn away from her soft and valiant heart when she's suffering so?

When those out to get him endanger her safety, will Saint risk everything to save her?

Texas Lost was number 27 in Jean Brashear's Texas Heroes series. It was a compelling story about the devastation of loss and the power of love. I was pulled into the story and felt the wrenching heartbreak of the losses and the healing power of love. It was a wonderful addition to this series in which there are characters and storylines intermingled among the books. I have enjoyed reading Jean Brashear's books, including this one. Her characters have depth, and they have the same desires that real people have: most importantly, the desire to love and to be loved.

Love it when I finish reading a book and I want to jump up and yell "Yes!!! That was awesome!!"
Clarice and Saint, two complete opposites who together complete each other. But their journey is a tumultuous one. Clarice is magnificent, so courageous and Saint is so alpha and protective of those he cares for.
Jean Brashear tells there story so wonderfully. I highly recommend any and all of her books.

I wanted a bit more... More about the sisters reunion, more about the departments apology/ dropped charges, more about Clarices recovery/return to her job. There had to be fallout. Overall it is a good read. Jean Brashear is a captivating author.

Clarice Sutton’s future should have been mapped out for her. The only daughter of successful, society parents, the girlfriend of an up and coming public servant. What else could she want? But she did want more (or is it different?). Clarice has taken a job as police department psychologist, much to her family’s dismay, but she finds satisfaction in her job. When she is assigned Saint as a client after he kills a suspect, they each feel instant attraction, but also a sense of respect and connection with the other.
As the noose tightens around Saint, Clarice’s sense that he is a good man trying to right past wrongs grows.

This story is one of change and becoming more, of finding and holding on to family and love when it is hard and perhaps dangerous.

Wow, Jean Brashear never fails to deliver! I'm hooked as soon as I start reading. I love the way each story I read somehow relates to another series so you get to re-visit previous people in other stories, yes plural. You are anxiously awaiting for what's to happen next or sitting on the edge of your seat hoping everything turns out ok. So many instances based on every day happenings to other people that you can easily identify with the people you are reading about. The surprise chuckles/laughter takes you by surprise.
I would give her more stars but... they aren't available.
