About this ebook

His career is in her hands—will he risk his future to save her?

Clarice Sutton, daughter of privilege, was raised to lead society, but that life feels increasingly empty, so instead of taking her proper place in their social set, she's taken a job her parents abhor: police department psychologist. The company she keeps and the people she meets horrify her oh-so-proper parents and their friends.

Santino "Saint" Valdez—hardnosed detective who is anything but saintly—is under investigation by Internal Affairs for killing a predator he's not at all sorry to have eliminated. Now he's supposed to spill his guts to Miss Prim and Prissy? No way—not ever.

Yet she's not what he expects, and he surprises her, as well. A growing attraction complicates both their lives, and time spent together only strengthens the unwise bond between the mongrel from the streets and the society girl.

Saint's future depends on Clarice's professional evaluation, yet her feelings toward him are increasingly anything but professional. An Internal Affairs detective who trusts her wants Saint's head in a noose, so the stakes couldn't be higher. New on the job, Clarice can't afford to falter, yet the urge to defend the man who won't defend himself is powerful.

And when Clarice learns that the parents she's tried so hard to please have lied to her all her life, the only person she trusts to understand how lost and alone she feels is the very man she must avoid in order to save him.

As the forces against Saint gather, he knows the worst thing he can do is spend time with her and risk tainting her evaluation…yet how can he turn away from her soft and valiant heart when she's suffering so?

And when those out to get him endanger her safety, will Saint risk everything to save her?

This was a truly outstanding book. It has a touch of everything. Mystery, suspense, action, and a nice slow build romance. Saint and Clarice are complete opposites in personality as well as coming from two different worlds yet you can see immediately how well they work together. With his career in her hands Saint has to fight his fierce attraction and pull to Clarice. Yet when her own life implodes she turns to him and there is no way he can refuse her. This book is very well written and these characters are captivating. Definitely a book I recommend.

This book will keep you on the edge of your seat. Secrets, mystery, intrigue, action, and suspense throughout the book. Let us not forget romance. Saint and Clarice are so different, yet share something neither are quite aware of when they first meet. When she found out about her father, I was not expecting that twist. I appreciated that when Clarice's world was knocked off of its axis, it was Saint she ran to for comfort. I was also surprised when finding out the "who" in the "who dun it?" I expected something completely different. This makes me want to re-read Texas Healer and Texas Deception. I voluntarily read and reviewed the Advanced Reader Copy of this book.

About the author

New York Times and USAToday bestselling Texas romance author of over 50 novels, including the popular TEXAS HEROES series, a five-time RITA finalist and RT BOOKReviews Career Achievement Award winner, Jean Brashear knows a lot about taking crazy chances. A lifelong avid reader, at the age of forty-five with no experience and no training, she decided to see if she could write a book. It was a wild leap that turned her whole life upside down, but she would tell you that though she’s never been more terrified, she’s never felt more exhilarated or more alive. She’s an ardent proponent of not putting off your dreams until that elusive ‘someday’—take that leap now.
