Texas Hope: A Small Town Second Chance Secret Baby Cowboy Meets City Girl Romance (Sweetgrass Springs Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.7 out of 5 stars 340 ratings

A secret baby. The brother he never knew.
A cowboy abandoned by his city girl.
A second chance at love.

For Michael Cavanaugh’s entire life, his mother has kept a shocking secret: that she was married once before she married his father, and she gave birth to that man’s child. Stunned that the mother who’d loved him so would abandon a child and furious with his mother’s deceit, he sets out to find the older brother he has always wanted. Ian McLaren, the favorite son of Sweetgrass Springs, has a full plate: a wife he adores, a baby on the way, a ranch to run and a town that depends on him. When a stranger arrives in town with the staggering news that he and Ian share a mother—the woman he’ll never forgive for abandoning him and his dad—his world tilts off its axis.

Gordon McLaren has had years to regret the path he chose that parted him from the only woman he’s ever loved. Now he is torn between his longing to see her again and the anguish doing so would cause the son he’s worked so hard to protect all these years. Walking away from the child she cherished and the man she loved was far from easy for Sophia Bancroft McLaren Cavanaugh. Facing them again would be the single most terrifying step she’s undertaken since the day she left to save her sanity—and Gordon forbade her to return. Secrets divide the four of them, and the anguish of the past makes it impossible to hope they could ever overcome the years of heartache-- Until the threat of an even more unbearable loss gives them one last chance to unite.

    ***UPDATE - Includes Audiobook review****

I both read and listened to this book. The narrator only enhances all the emotions you feel. It was a really good story, and Eric G. Dove makes you forget that HE is all of Sweetgrass Springs. The book was great, but the narration took me on a journey.

I will add my review of the book to this review.

I voluntarily listened to and reviewed the Audiobook provided by the author.

    ****Ebook review****
Wow! There was a lot going on in this story. It can be read as a standalone because the writer gives you a bit of background on each character and relationship. If you have read the Book Babes Trilogy, that will help even more.

This book takes you back to Sweetgrass Springs and you get to revisit most of the characters in town. There are so many secrets, hurt feelings, and pain for Michael, Ian, Sophia, Gordon, and Laken.

I liked the way Michael and Ian are portrayed as strong, independent, loving , and forgiving men. I guess you can put Ian's father Gordon in that same category.

The way the writer described Sophia's struggle with the decision she made was well done. Even if a person could never personally understand walking away from a child, what was going through Sophia's head clarified what SHE was going through and what SHE thought was best. The sad thing was that she didn't think much of herself.

Laken's struggle with who she was and what she wanted made an abrupt turn once she hit Sweetgrass Springs. She and Michael had great chemistry. They also had some rather harsh conversations. Actually, there were a number of very direct, difficult conversations in this book. But, overwhelmingly, there was the strong sense of love, loyalty, friendship and support that is in every Sweetgrass Springs book. Let's not forget the funny moments or the steamy moments either.

There was so much more that happened, you really need to read this one yourself.

Overall it was a good book. The author does a good job developing her characters and making you care about what happens. You feel that you'd like to be part of the town. However, I never could warm up to Laken. In fact, I was rooting for Michael to end their relationship and find someone else. I still felt that way in the end. The author never was able to generate much sympathy for her and I feel that hurt the book. If you've read the previous books this is a good continuation of the series. If this is the first you've read of this author it is a stand alone but makes you want to go back and read the others.

Really enjoyed this book. At first I had trouble keeping everyone straight because I had only read one other book in the series, but the author did a great job of bringing everyone up to speed. The characters were clearly defined and their emotions were well developed. I did have tears in my eyes at the end, but they were good tears. The family interactions were particularly well developed both between the half-brothers, the father and sons and mother and sons. In addition the love and forgiveness made this book very heart-warming. Jean Brashear's description of the characters was very well defined. The most striking part of the book was her description of emotions from a mother's love to a husband's devotion. Again this book developed very strong emotions. The book flowed from one character to another, the plot was well defined and the story was very easy to read. '

I really enjoyed this book!! It definitely is a romantic tearjerker!
We are back in the town of Sweetwater where we find Scarlett in the later stages of her pregnancy driving both Ian and Ruby crazy with worry. Then we are introduced to Michael who has come to Sweetwater to find a brother that he just found out that he has. His brother is Ian , the son of Gordon and Sophia. Sophia left both Gordon and Ian when Ian was just a small child. As the story is unfolding , we find out why Sophia left and also see Michael struggling to befriend his newfound brother. In addition to this storyline, we are introduced to Laken the girl that Michael is in love with and trying to win over. The unfolding relationship between Gordon and his ex wife Sophia is both heartbreaking and inspiring. Each character has a difficult time reconciling themselves to unexpected revelations and changing relationship dynamics. The characters are all so likable you can't help but wish for everyone's happy ending and again want to move to Sweetwater!
I thoroughly enjoyed this new book in the series even as it brought me to tears on several occasions!

I love this series, but I think this is the most powerful book of the series thus far. The emotions are so strong I am still wiping tears from my eyes,,,you know a book is great when you begin to feel like a part of the family, the community that Jean has created,,,and you want to live there. This book has it all,,,that close knit core of love, faith, and redemption we all yearn for,,,acceptance beyond belief,,,especially for those of us who can relate to the challenges of life that have left us scarred and distrustful. Jean’s books give us hope that someday we might find that sense of belonging,,of being cherished, accepted, and find a “home”.

Will this author stop making me cry already. A beautifully written story of romance of love won and lost and reclaimed . Many give their hearts easily many have their hearts broken but when a heart is ready to open up to the possibility of hope then all it takes is a second chance. Gripping drama and moving beyond words. I was sobbing. Go Sweetgrass you work some phenomenal magic.
As a midwife I felt every bit of the drama and the accuracy of the scenes in the hospital. Well Done
