- Reviewed in the United States on July 21, 2022I loved the characters in this book of love, betrayed and reclaimed. Beautiful settings, incredibly insightful, how can this author write so well about amnesia? I wonder if she experienced it, too?
- Reviewed in the United States on June 4, 2019I hate infidelity, but Jean wrote about how life really is, how we can sink in to traps, grow apart. It takes real love, commitment and a lot of work to make marriage work. This is a story of a couple who made the long term commitment to do that. Thank you, Jean!
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2020Well, I had debated about reading this for a while. I am glad I did, so I don’t have to debate about it again. Overall, this wasn’t for me. It’s not a bad story. The mystery of what exactly happened before the h lost her memory isn’t really a mystery, but you do wonder if once she remembers what will happen. My biggest complaint is she had no memories for about 85% of the book. She remembers and then everything is resolved in the last 15%. So hence....the H didn’t grovel to the h. He just grovels in his mind, then bam her memories are back and it’s forgive...and forget. No real resolution.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 22, 2019Just when you think it can't get any better it does.Jean Brashear has never failed to amaze and delight me I'm looking forward to reading her next book.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 25, 2019I loved this book. It makes a person believe in love and marriage. The book will have you believing in romance and sitting on the edge of your seat. You will cheer for Bella and James. A real page turner.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2019Bella and James magical connection in the beginning of their marriage slowly decompensates. There is a serious disconnect between them. Bella decides she needs some time away to think to be on her own and decide what she wants for herself. Whether she can forgive James and wants to stay with him or start a new life. Unfortunately on her travels she is attacked leaving her bruised and with no memory of her past. The doctor who treats her is a kind and gentle man named Sam has a soft spot for the injured woman he calls Jane. He volunteers to let her live in his extra apartment until she is well enough to leave. Sam and his housekeep Louisa look after Jane and encourage her to relax and let the memories return or accept her new “normal”. Jane wants to know where she comes from, she has snippets of memories and the feeling that a family may be looking for her. With the help of the police her picture and story is put out to the public. James finds out she is alive and sets out to go to her. Unfortunately Jane aka Bella doesn’t remember James or their two children so James sets out to trigger her memories. This story has one of the most exquisite poignant love making scenes I’ve ever read. If Bella remembers what James did will she be able to forgive him and go home to the family that desperately misses her and the light and laughter she brought to their lives and their home or will she begin a new life? Jean Brashear has done it again written a book that draws you into the characters’ lives and emotions.
- Reviewed in the United States on June 13, 2019I really enjoyed this story of an older couple who loved each other, but had lost their relationship as their children left home and they became more involved in jobs and outside responsibilities than in their relationship with each other. Finally, he has a one night relationship and she decides she has to leave.
When she is mugged and loses her memory the family reaches crisis stage. No one has heard from her and, since she left voluntarily, the police won’t search for her. On her side, she cannot understand why no one is looking for her. Did no one care, did she have no family or friends?
This story had several pieces - the effects of loss of memory on her husband and children when she doesn’t recognize them or remember their life together. - the effect on her as she is, again, is drawn to her family but can’t understand why she left and finally the effects on each person when she does remember.
This story is well thought out, compelling in it’s honesty as each person struggles with the future when the past is buried in history. Well worth reading.
- Reviewed in the United States on May 21, 2019This is an exceptional story that is packed with emotion, family drama, and a love that has survived decades but has now hit a hard spot. It's clear it will take time, faith, determination, and trust to heal. It was nice to read a story featuring a mature couple who are flawed but honest, caring, and determined to get back what they once had. This is the second book in the Second Chances series but each book can be read standalone and in no particular order. I think everyone will enjoy Bella and James' journey back to happiness. I definitely recommend it.

5.0 out of 5 stars Another great read from Jean Brashear
Wonderful story of love given, love lost, and love found. A lovely walk through pain, loss, and forgiveness. In the throw away society in which we live it is a wonderful reminder that some things, though broken, are worth fighting for. I loved this wonderful story. Another winner from this author!

5.0 out of 5 stars Could not put it down.
This is such a brave story to write. We don't get enough stories about older couples. And this one is a must read. Bella and James lost their way and Bella needed to find herself again. Tragedy struck and she lost her memories. This is James's chance to win his wife back and to show her he still loves her and their family.

5.0 out of 5 stars An addictive read
What a beautiful story. It was great to see an older couple featured and the struggles that they faced. There was lots of emotion but moments of compassion too. It was very well written and I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

3.0 out of 5 stars Good but....
I am in the minority, but I wished for a different ending! The author told a great story but in the end I felt things were too nicely concluded.

4.0 out of 5 stars Bella and James
Bella has disappeared, turns up with Amnesia. James needs to win her love all over again, especially when she finds out why she was gone from her home.
